C-Tech(CGBOOST)

The challenge experience really gave me a chance to be pushed out of my comfort zones. The challenge took me twenty days to complete, with a few days to try out things that were out of scope. Spending too much time on ideas that didn’t match my current skill level was frustrating, but in hind-sight, I still learned something from the attempt. Overall, I am grateful for the journey with everyone and sharing a common goal with like-minded people.

Conceptualization and Planning

Brainstorming the idea of a bio-engineered organism for the deep sea environment.
Researching deep-sea biology and technology for inspiration.
Creating vision board for design pillars.

Modeling

Creating the basic shape and anatomy of the C-Tech using Blender's modeling tools.
Adding intricate details such as scales, fins, and mechanical components.
Ensuring the model is optimized for animation and rendering.

Using AI

Using AI generated images for inspiration.

Texturing and Shading

Applying textures to the model to simulate organic materials like skin and scales.
Incorporating shaders to achieve a realistic or stylized appearance.
Experimenting with materials to achieve the desired bioluminescent effect.

Rigging

Rigging the model with an armature to enable movement and animation.
Setting up IK (Inverse Kinematics) constraints to control the movement of tentacles or other flexible parts.
Testing the rig to ensure it deforms properly and moves realistically.

Animation

Planning the animation sequences and movements of the C-Tech.
Key-framing the animation to define key poses and movements.
Refining the animation curves to achieve smooth, natural motion.
Incorporating secondary animations like other actors or blinking lights.

Lighting and Rendering

Setting up the lighting environment to evoke the deep-sea atmosphere.
Experimenting with different light sources and color temperatures to achieve the desired mood.
Adjusting rendering settings for optimal quality and efficiency.
Rendering the final animation frames or sequences.

Decorating Scene

Adding 3rd party asset to decorate and fill out scene
Keeping poly count in mind for best performance during animation.

Presentation

Assembling the final animation render along with supporting materials (concept art, screenshots, etc.).
Writing a brief description or artist statement to accompany the portfolio piece, highlighting the concept and creative process and submitting to challenge.
